Who broke out this Nike EYBL Season?

Every year on the Nike EYBL circuit there are players who boost their stocks and get put onto the national radar. The EYBL once again had their fair share of breakout stars through the regular season.

Oakland Soldiers' Boogie Ellis

Jaylen Forbes - MEBO Team Hood

When talking about break out players this AAU season, MEBO Team Hood’s Jaylen Forbes is one of the first names that come to mind. Forbes, who is averaging 20 points per game on the year, has emerged into being one of the top scoring wings throughout the circuit. With a good balance of skill and athleticism, Forbes put together multiple high level scoring performances and to give more context to this, he scored 20 points or more in eleven games.

2018 statistics: 20.0 PPG, 5.3 RPG 1.6 SPG

Dashawn Davis - NY Lightning

NY Lightning shooting guard Dashawn Davis is a huge reason why his team is Peach Jam qualified and capable of making a run this July. Davis is very similar to the guards the NY Lightning have had in the past. Davis plays with great toughness coupled with high level athleticism. Just like his teammates, Davis is at his best when the game is fast paced. He went into this AAU season as an under the radar prospect, but left as a known commodity.

2018 statistics: 13.7 PPG, 4.2 APG, 3.7 RPG, 1.5 SPG

Marsei Caston - E1T1 United

Another Nike EYBL regular season is in the books and it's another year E1T1 United is qualified for Peach Jam. E1T1 had their high level prospects with guys like Tre Mann and C.J. Walker, but Marsei Caston wasn’t a very big name heading into the spring. With 14.5 points per game and a 50 percent field goal percentage, Caston has put together quite the season for himself. Caston stepped into a big role this season and did what was expected of him and then some.

2018 statistics (12 games): 14.5 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 1.8 APG

DeAntoni Gordon - NTF

Class of 2019 Wichita State commit and Nike Team Florida power forward DeAntoni Gordon has been nothing but impressive this season. Gordon impacts the game in a variety of ways, but is at his best when running the floor and showing off his vertical on the break. Gordon’s averaging 11.5 points per game and shooting 61 percent from the field. If Nike Team Florida wants to make the run in the Peach Jam that they are capable of, they will need Gordon to keep up these kind of numbers.

2018 statistics: 11.5 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 1.5 BPG

Zach Freemantle - NJ Playaz

The NJ Playaz had plenty of doubters going into this season and a big question mark was whether their big men were up for the task this season. Needless to say Zach Freemantle quickly silenced those doubters and played much better than most thought he was capable of. Through the regular season Freemantle has averaged 14 points per game on 61 percent shooting and 8.5 rebounds per game. The NJ Playaz will heavily rely on him at Peach Jam.

2018 statistics: 13.1 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 1.2 BPG

Jalen Hill - Las Vegas Prospects

After getting off to a hot start, the Las Vegas Prospects barely missed the cut for making Peach Jam this season, but that doesn’t mean players like Jalen Hill didn’t leave their mark. Hill held some decent offers prior to the EYBL season, but he didn’t have the name he does now. The class of 2019 forward is scoring the ball well and is doing it efficiently with 17.5 points per game on 53 percent shooting. With offers pouring in, Hill has a lot of programs who will be keeping an eye on him this July.

2018 statistics: 17.5 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 1.9 APG, 1.5 SPG

Brandon Newman - Meanstreets

Meanstreets have once again qualified for the Peach Jam this season and class of 2019 guard Brandon Newman has a lot to do with it. He is currently averaging 18.3 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game. Newman got off to a great start and stayed consistent throughout the season. With his play, he will have a lot more eyes on him come this July.

2018 statistics: 18.3 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 1.3 SPG, 1.1 APG

Isaiah Wilkins - Team CP3

Team CP3 had high expectations this season and they have met them with a 13-3 record going into Peach Jam. They are a well-rounded team and class of 2019 wing Isaiah Wilkins plays a big part in that. Wilkins has stepped into a crucial role this year for Team CP3 and has done his job. Wilkins’ toughness allows him to be highly effective on defense and when finishing around the basket.

2018 statistics: 11.7 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 1.3 APG

Boogie Ellis - Oakland Soldiers

Both the Oakland Soldiers and Boogie Ellis have been a pleasant surprise this season. Ellis has had a couple of huge performances, but none were bigger than his 43 point performance against the Nike Phamily. Ellis has provided the Soldiers with elite shooting and playmaking ability. Ellis proved he has the capability of playing against anyone and should show that in July.
