Team Breakdown:

Team CP3 (NC) put together another impressive EYBL campaign in 2018, finishing the season with a 13-3 record while maintaining the highest winning percentage in EYBL history. All 10 graduating seniors are moving onto college, and head coach Jon Adams will be turning over a completely new 17-and-under roster. CP3's rotation will go 10-deep, and it is filled with some major athletes. The roster features seven juniors and three sophomores, and while they might not have the name-brand 'star' power from a year's past, this squad is more than capable of beating anyone that's put in front of them. On paper, all seven incoming seniors are Division 1 prospects. If they mesh before the season starts, which looks like it was off to a good start at Phenom Hoops' 'Stay Positive' preseason event.

The Star(s)

Sophomore Cam Hayes is the highest-ranked recruit on the roster, and he enjoyed a tremendous season for CP3 on the E16 level. Hayes (247 No. 26) has good size and strength for a player his age, and he rarely turns the ball over. He's a talented, poised combo guard that offers a terrific pull-up game in the mid-range, and his quickness and shiftiness allow him to be an elite facilitator in transition.  The 6-foot-3 guard helped Greensboro Day to a 30-5 record en route to a State Championship. He will have some major weapons to work with and will enter the season as a prime candidate to land on the All-Underclassmen team.

The Backcourt

Hayes will lead the backcourt, and CP3 will surround him with guard-heavy rotation chock full of athletes. 6-foot-1 junior playmaker Shakeel Moore is great at attacking the basket definitely has an extra burst in his jump. Moore is an aggressive, attacking combo-guard that should excel in CP3's playing style. He holds offers from Wake Forest and Wichita State, among others, and should see his stock rise with a productive spring.

Sophomore guard Dontrez Styles will see big minutes in the backcourt and is a favorite internally to break out. The 6-foot-7 Styles is a quick off the floor and a solid ball-handler for a player his size. Similar to the rest of CP3's roster, Styles will benefit from the pace at which CP3 plays, and his ability to score the ball at all three levels should be on full display. The Kinston (NC) high school product already owns an offer from Georgetown, and he should have a lot more interest once the first session concludes. 6-foot guard Evan Johnson is back after playing big minutes for last season's 16U team. Johnson (247 No. 181) is a product of legendary coach Steve Smith at Oak Hill Academy (VA),  and he is coming off a winter season in which he got to learn from the nation's No. 1 point guard and three-year EYBL veteran Cole Anthony.

Juniors Christian Hampton (6-foot-5) and Josh Massey (6-foot-7) will provide energy off the bench, and both bring something different to the table. Hampton is a solid two-way player whose motor doesn't stop. He has elite athleticism and quickness which allows him to make the opposition uncomfortable when he's locked in defensively. Massey is a crafty lefty with good size, and is coming off a strong junior season for Porter Ridge in which has was selected to the NCISAA 1A All-State team.

The Frontcourt

The CP3 frontcourt runs four deep. Junior forward Cameron Stitt (247 Composite No. 125) is a capable scorer at all three levels, and his length and athletism make him an intriguing prospect. The 6-foot-8 Stitt seemed to be productive no matter where you put him during the high school season for United Faith Christian Academy (NC). He will be relied upon for his defensive and rebounding, but the skill-set he offers in transition and in the halfcourt will not go unnoticed. 7-foot junior Francesco Borra is the tallest player on the roster and one of the most physically imposing players on the entire circuit.

Borra came over to the states from Italy in November, joining new high school program Tri-City Christian in Hickory, North Carolina. Borra will need some time to get used to the speed and athleticism of the EYBL, but he is strong in the pick-and-roll and has the skillset to efficiently shoot from the perimeter. Borra is primed to break out in a big way, and if he can stay out of foul trouble, he will be playing big minutes for CP3. 6-foot-8 sophomore Duncan Powell will see big minutes for CP3, and the Desoto (TX) product is a versatile forward capable of impacting the game on both ends of the floor. Powell has a nice feel for the game, and his ability to rebound and finish in the paint will be a major key to CP3's frontcourt success. 6-foot-5 junior swingman Kamryn Edwards rounds out the rotation, giving CP3 another transition-oriented player who can guard multiple positions.

Expectations

CP3 should find plenty of success in 2019. In order for that to happen, Adams will need a portion of the backcourt to step up their production alongside Hayes. Moore and Johnson will both be spark plugs for CP3, and Styles has a chance to be one of the biggest breakout underclassmen on the circuit. CP3 advanced to 2018 Peach Jam bracket play a year after going 0-5 in 2017, so they'll be looking to continue a string of postseason success. CP3 has advanced to July's super bowl of grassroots basketball in North Augusta in every season since 2011, and it's unlikely that streak is going to come to an end this summer.
